3 day boutique coastal trail riding glamping getaway set on the stunning coastline of Northland New Zealand
The luxury glamping accommodation at Awatuna Yurt is your magical home base to this stunning Northland riding experience. Spend your nights at this peaceful location, listening to the bubbling stream and bird song. Soak away the day of riding in a bush bath under the stars. As you ride follow private grass tracks and visit Pohutukawa fringed beaches. Climb over steep hillsides, rewarded by sweeping views of the pacific ocean and the pristine Hidden Valley. Visit our resident eels in the valley stream and get a chance to swim the horses on a private beach.*

**Full-Day treks are ONLY suitable for people with extensive riding experience. If your guide feels that your riding level does not meet the requirement, your trek will be shortened. See cancellation policy for details.
Advanced Rider – an experienced rider who is fit and has an independent seat with soft hands. Must be confident on a forward-moving horse at all gaits over rough and variable ground on open terrain. This ride has a number of steep hills and narrow tracks that require a confident rider.
A very good level of fitness is required for this trail. There may be parts of the trail that require hiking on foot. Must be able to mount and dismount without a mounting block.

Awatuna Yurt provides either 1 king bed or a twin share. Luxury linens, towels and soap / shampoo are provided. Our yurt is a 5 minute walk to popular surf beach, Sandy Bay.
Ready-to-self-cook fresh dinner meal packs will be waiting for you in the glamping kitchen along with lovely NZ wine, & 3 delicious continental breakfast varieties. Yummy packed picnic lunch on both riding days will be supplied with your guide.
This ride cannot go ahead in high wind or rain, please read the cancellation policy in FAQs. Subject to availability.
Day 1 - Arrive at the Sandy Bay Horse yards ready to ride at 10:30am where your guide will meet you. Today you will get to know your horses with a beautiful valley ride to visit our resident long fin eels. Follow the grass track down to the private beach at Calm Bay for a mid-day swim with the horses and a relaxed picnic lunch.* Return around 3pm to check into the Awatuna yurt. *swimming with the horses is subject to beach conditions and weather.
Day 2 - Head down to the horse yard at 9am ready to ride. Today you will be embarking on a journey through steep Northland farm tracks, climbing high into the coastal landscape, rewarded by impressive views. Follow stunning native forest tracks & enjoy expansive views over the Hidden Valley for a peaceful break then ride to Calm Bay for tasty packed lunch and a swim. Return to the yard around 2pm. Head back up to Awatuna yurt for a relaxing soak in the bath or a quiet stroll down to Sandy Bay for a cool dip.
Day 3 - Enjoy a lazy morning to rest and savour the summer fruits and delightful breakfast in the beautiful yurt setting. Check out from Awatuna yurt by 11am.
3 days with 2 nights accommodation and 2 days of riding for 2 people. A delicious packed picnic lunch on both trail riding days is provided. 2x ready-to-cook fresh meal packs for dinner & 3 days of yummy continental breakfasts will be waiting for you at Awatuna yurt.
WHAT TO BRING:
Helmets will be supplied. If you would prefer to use your own gear or extras like gloves, please do so. Helmets are required on all rides.
We will provide saddle bags for your swimsuits, water bottles, sunblock and small towels.
Long pants for riding
Comfy socks and your riding boots (closed in shoes only)
Warm top on cooler days/jacket
Sunscreen (NZ sun can be very strong!)
Swimwear - if the weather is nice there are opportunities to stop for a swim
Riding gloves, if preferred
